Effects of Partial Saturation on Nitrogen Removal and Bacterial Community in Vertical-flow Constructed Wetlands

چکیده

The laboratory-scale pilot of constructed wetlands has been in operation for six months; (1) an unsaturated vertical flow wetland (UVF-CW), this system was used to represent the classic wetlands, (2) a saturated (SVF-CW), evaluate effects condition on nitrogen removal and composition microbial community. results showed that saturation positiveley influenced efficiencies nitrogen, aeverage rate total kjeldahl increased from 56% (UVF-CW) 63% (SVF-CW). In addition, communities also affected by condition, relative abundances nitrifying bacterium UVF-CW are 13.8% (Nitrosomonas), 7.2% (Nitrosospira), 18.1% (Nitrospira) 15.3% (Nitrobacter). contrast, SVF-CW, Nitrosomonas, Nitrosospira, Nitrospira Nitrobacter only accounted 6.8%, 5.6%, 7.4% 10.6% respectively. However, seemed increase denitrifying more than three times, wetland, Pseudomonas (6.5%) Paracoccus (4.85%) were detected, but abundance (13.08%) (9.74%) increased, other groups bacteria detected as Zoogloea (3.32%), Thauera (5.41%) Thiobacillus (3%), due low availability oxygen, it seems be beneficial bacteria.

Enhanced nitrogen removal in constructed wetlands: effects

Four horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetlands (HSFCWs), named HSFCW1 (three-stage, without step-feeding), HSFCW2 (three-stage, with step-feeding), HSFCW3 (five-stage, without step-feeding) and HSFCW4 (five-stage, with step-feeding) were designed to investigate the effects of dissolved oxygen (DO) and step-feeding on nitrogen removal. High removal of 90.9% COD, 99.1% ammonium nitrogen and...

Recirculating Vertical Flow Constructed Wetlands

In parts of the United States where soils are very permeable, conventional septic tank and absorption field systems are considered the largest contributor to waterborne disease and pollution of water bodies. However, an economical, recirculating vertical flow (RVF) constructed wetland, used as a pretreatment system, can significantly improve the performance of conventional onsite wastewater tre...

Enhancement of Nitrogen and Phosphorus Removal in Pilot-Scale Vertical Subsurface Flow-Constructed Wetlands Using Polypropylene Pellets

Removal of nitrogen and phosphorus is known to be somewhat problematic in vertical subsurface flow (VSSF)constructed wetlands. In this pilot-scale study, two planted (Typha latifolia L. [cattail]) VSSF-constructed wetlands A (with polypropylene pellets) and B (without polypropylene pellets) and one unplanted control C (without polypropylene pellets) were designed to test the contribution of pol...

Factors Controlling Biogeochemical Removal of Nitrogen in Constructed Wetlands

The Long Island Sound (LIS) estuary is affected by summer hypoxia as a result of high nitrogen loads from New York and Connecticut watersheds. In order to mitigate hypoxia, managers have established a goal of reducing the nitrogen load from nonpoint sources by 10%. One strategy to reduce N loads from nonpoint sources is the use of constructed wetlands, which provide an ecosystem service by remo...
